Story and Melody Libraries
Teaching - ideas, lessons etc - through stories is an old and established craft. Among the famous storytellers are Jewish Rebbe’s*.
For the Rebbe’s the human voice, the one that can sing and tell stories, is treasured. I once read that they believe stories are so powerful that if you tell the right story to the right person at the right time you change their world.
Their stories, whether weaved into three lines or three-thousand, capture a timeless and timely wisdom. Their melodies, "Niggun" are wordless, and thus unlimited, songs that anyone can understand.
In the last days I have been exposed to two wonderful collections of Chassidic tales and collection of Melody, "Niggun".
The stories can be found online here at the Chabad.org library and the aptly named Hasdic Stories.com. You can listen to the melodies here. My personal favourite, a story that combines tale and song, the story of "The Nigun".
* Rabbi literally means ‘teacher.’ Rebbe is the Yiddish word for Rabbi and is used to describe Rabbis who fall into a branch of Judaism termed "Chassidic".
