Tractor to the Southpole
Once upon a time a girl got on a tractor and drove it to the end of the world, and back.
The time is now!
With thanks to Jochem I discovered the story of Southpole.
"Southpole" is the journey of Manon Ossevoort, the young dutch woman, pictured above, who this year will hop on her tractor and ride it to the Southpole via Europe and Africa.
The intentions of the journey are "to inspire and involve". As part of her mission she wil promote the work of WarChild, Unicef and other "special projects" that show "faith, courage, endurance and love".
Though admirable, I write this entry because ever since I read about the idea I can’t get the image out of my head!
What both captivates and challenges me most is this: A child dreams of driving a tractor to the end of the world. An adult, realising they have a drivers license, gets on a tractor and drives.
How many of us could do this?
As children we are all in touch with wonderful ideas, thoughts, imaginations. As adults we have developed tools and abilities that could realise them. Yet by them few of us connect with these parts of ourselves anymore, what with all the important ‘work’ we must do.
We all have a metaphorical tractor. Where are you steering yours? (Or worse still, are you letting it rust?)
