To Change the Future…

Change the Present, as you then Change the Past.*

Clearly I am having a reflecting time right now, however it seems suddenly clear to me that we all have the ability to change, or at least shape, the future (for the positive I hope)!

How? By excelling not only at reading (and remembering) the past, but in consciously doing things in the present, in the now, so that as they become our past, we consciously shape our future outcomes!

To my own thoughts I add some quotes. First, from a speech by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple and Pixar**, to Standford‘s 2005 graduating class:

"It is impossible to connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backward, so you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future."

And also these: "You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you"***

I like your writing on re working on the present to change the past, Forwarded it onto a friend for whom it seemes apt. Also triggered the thought in my mind how by directly changing your present, you alter your relationship with your past and hence (from your relative perspective), your past is dynamically changed.

Just saw this: The Well of Wyrd illustrates the concept of past actions determining the course of the future. The universe is conceived of as Yggdrasil, the World Tree, which is nourished by the Well of Wyrd. Dew drips from the branches of Yggdrasil and falls into the Well. This symbolizes the actions performed in the present as they become part of the past. Eventually, they are drawn back up into the World Tree and nourish its fruit. This, too, symbolically describes how these past actions determine and nourish the course of the future. Past actions determining and nourishing future ones removes any notion of absolute “free will”, which cannot exist purely within the interlocked and interconnected reality of Wyrd. Even decisions made in the present are dependent on past forces, and are shaped by them.
