Why stories, Why now?

Take a look at the people you respect most for their opinions, or the leaders you revere and I will hazard a guess that they are good storytellers.

Lately I have been musing on stories often (as part of my commitment to studying the narrative this year) and thought I’d make sure I kept some of the ideas thus far.

Storytelling is an old, and I believe, reviving art.  On the ’sudden’ rise in interest in the narrative/stories both in general and also, in business: the reason seem to me to be twofold.

One, they make good (business) sense because people understand and believe stories far more readily and easily than facts. We are, after all, meaning making creatures. And now we have case studies to prove it - such as Steve Dennings work.

But moreover, and this is the bigger part, I hazard a guess that as we continue in our attempts to find out feet in this new world we are searching for stories that can show us the way, can teach us the lessons to assist us as we grapple…
