Winter Solstice (For Northern Folk)

"Shall we dance or something to celebrate?" Asked healing pixie, Seanan, in an email today…and in doing so kindly highlighted that:

Today is the shortest day and longest night of the year

- ie when one hemisphere of the earth, in this case, the Northern one, is the furthest away from the sun in its orbit.

In a quick spot of reading I just found a fun fact:

"Through an interesting coincidence in the Earth’s orbit, the northern hemisphere’s winter occurs roughly when the sun is actually closest to the earth"

Quite a little ‘common sense’ challenger.

Sprinkles of starshine and moondance fellow journeymen!

PS if you are so inclined to continue chasing: NASA’s daily image has a great little article and photo
