Booja Vex

This morning I was emailed by Peter Eaves. He had received this curious quote card (below) with some premium easter eggs made by Booja-Booja, and though I might understand its meaning.

Alas, I, too, am completely bamboozeled. Or should that be boojaboojaed? Even google failed me today! (shock horror). Is there a reference I do not know about women and balloons? Is the concept of the conditional universe full of air? Physicists among you, arise please!

The only thing I can think of that reminds me, faintly, of this quote - which, incidently has a TM next to it!? - is ‘a woman needs a man, like a fish needs a bicycle’. But the latter quote actually makes sense.

Can anyone solve this riddle for Peter? What does it mean?

Suggestions welcome!

Perhaps this card is merely engrish, not english, and as such is a riddle without meaning created for the masses. Engrish, for those of you who are unaware, can be sampled at http://www.engrish.com

I find the legal implications of the TM interesting: Imagine you wanted to quote this quote. You’d have to attribute it to Mister Booja Booja, which means that you’d have to break trademark, doesn’t it?

I am ashamed that google did not help you with such a query.

If I am not mistaken, Mr Booja Booja can be found in Norfolk. Norfolk is known for a few things: 1. its bleak and unyieldingly monotonous (flat) landscape, and 2. the supposed prolific occurrence of inbreeding. Both of these factors lend themselves to one outcome; insanity. However, if Mr Booja Booja is indeed loopy then how does he make such splendid chocolates? Indeed what if great chocolate manufacture and insanity are oxymoronic? Perhaps then he is right and totally lucid when he makes the above statement? Curses… What are we then if we don’t understand? Deranged? But then can the insane love great chocolate… wait… urrg.

Some more responses (they came via email and wished to remain anon)

    - The Computer Scientist: “You’re puzzled. That’s why people say nonsense. To puzzle other people. There is no such thing as a conditional universe. It sounds funny, that’s for sure.”

    - The Lawyer: I have no idea what it means though be careful potentially your reproduction of that card is a breach of copyright…

The Creative: Could be that Mr. B has been reading cartoons full of women commenting on the world that they expect - because they’ve read way too many Cinderella fairytales. Those ballons of dialogue could tend to lead someone to think like that.

The Business Contractor: No problem using a copy of the postcard because it is reproduced for discussion and not for personal application - and Mr.B has been given credit.

    The Physicist: Expect the unexpected.

    Thats lovely.
I am absorbed in Booja Booja in Norfolk. For me I feel Mister Booja Booja is serving our connection with the mystery of life.

Metaphysics, love and chocolate. Booja Booja in East Anglia shows us the way.

I’m overjoyed to see a new appearance of Mr. Booja-Booja’s unique wisdom! I used to enjoy the Booja-Booja fudge that my college roommate would buy in little Marin cafes. When unwrapped, each piece of fudge was on a waxed card with an actual picture of the mysterious Mr., talking to his little dog. On each card his word balloon would have some mysterious phrase or question, such as “Where does electricity wind up?” or “Everybody does the same thing in the beginning… and at the end.” There were several but apparently I just have the two left. The above quote about women with balloons fits this mysterious logic perfectly, though from the company website it looks like the packaging has gone upscale a bit. Hopefully there are still Mr. Booja-Booja cards inside each one. One of the cards I have (and I can send a scan if anyone’s really interested) has a copyright mark Booja Booja Co. 1987, the other one must be a bit older and has no mark.
