Postcard Joy
When was the last time you received a postcard in the mail?
Today I had the pleasure and joy of receiving a postcard with personal message from Emma.

The postcard followed a conversation with Emma, Rebecca and others about storytelling, and also, the various ways to bring people of all ages, including the 20-40year old set, to a Storytelling Festival in NY next year…[more to come on that]
Emma, an artist and great person, amongst other talents, was speaking about how blogging and myspace and many other technology enabled communication forms, even email, really didn’t interest her much:
"Recently, I’ve taken to sending postcards to let people know I am thinking of them"…
It was a great opportunity to reflect on media selection (see end note) and also remember joys of receiving ’snail’ mail that didn’t contain bills etc!
And today I received my gift in the mail.: a postcard especially for me!
Thank you Emma! I am going to pay the idea forward - perhaps you might like to try it too?
An end note: This post / thought also feeds into an ongoing conversation/thinking I am having around media/context selection, and how changing the context/media, we are able to change the world/the way in which our experiences occur, and messages are received. Nothing new - Marshall Mcluhan said it best "the medium is the message". Personally, I love email and all the other opportunities and possibilities to connect that technology can offer AND I also think that too often I/we don’t think about which medium we select - for instance, asking the question as to whether is there a time when perhaps it is better way to meet / connect then the way I am used to?
