Are You Living A Re-Run?

It has been said that you can never cross the same river twice.

And that is true…and yet…It’s also been said that "All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players…"

In Israel they have a phrase "eze seret?" "what movie [is this]?" to describe when things happen in your life that are like you expect to see in a movie. I suspect in part it is because a lot of things happen there that you would prefer to see acted out, not lived…

I also have noticed that at the moment my ‘real’ life and my ‘fake’ life have somehow merged…

I was discussing all this with a friend the other day. A writer, she makes her main income managing a dvd rental place…

Sometimes I sit with her and chat as people come in and out, day or night, renting films to make them laugh, cry, pass time…and she mentioned in passing, about the same conversations and same things she sees…

"It’s like watching re-runs…"

It happened at the same time that another friend had an AHA moment when she realised "I’ve been dating the same guy". All her partners - with all their different professions, looks, attitudes, aptitudesm country of origin etc - somehow, they were still a repeat of a man from 6years ago.

So yes, cliche as it sounds, the question that came to mind for me was

Am I living a re-run?’

Of course, many of us like our movie - or scenes. They are safe, we know when to cry, when to laugh…how we look from a particular angle…who our audience is…

But it made me think: Am I constantly, no matter where I am, acting out the same role, seeing the same general reality appear, same characters and so forth … and if I am, and if I don’t like it - how do I interrupt that pattern?

And what movie do I want to be in? The movie of my real life, not an online life (like, say secondlife…)

So yes, how is your movie these days?

Sending you some nice surprises for your life’s ‘seret‘.
