Of All The People In All The World: Visual Mapping by Stan’s Cafe

I’ve been cruising design sites of late (strange obsession of stuff and increased interest in design in general) and I saw this on designcrush and had to share.

It’s not quite Chris Jordan but it’s certainly good! And what I love most is it also seems like a great exercise in statistics in a classroom or workshop (Jordan’s work is a bit too hard to try at home ;))

Of All The People In All The World (UK) uses grains of rice to bring formally abstract statistics to startling and powerful life.

Each grain of rice = one person and you are invited to compare the one grain that is you to the millions that are not.

Over a period of days a team of performers carefully weigh out quantities of rice to represent a host of human statistics

- the populations of towns and cities
- the number of doctors, the number of soldiers
- the number of people born each day, the number who die
- all the people who have walked on the moon
- deaths in the holocaust

The project has been running in a range of cities so be sure to check out the list on stan’s cafe

PS Some design/homewares etc links I’m loving:
- Etsy.com
- Apartmenttherapy.com
- Coolhunting.com
- Design from a scandinavian perspective
Not to mention old faves like ohjoy! & thinkfeelstudio

PPS For a bit of a laugh you can look & listen to what I made at Wix last week – it should sound familiar

And read some of my blogs on TEDtalks here
